Week of Sept. 23-26th

Standard

Short and sweet update this week:

We added the sight words “the” and “and” and worked on the letters Nn and Pp.  We started our apple unit and learned about Johnny Appleseed, how apples are grown and of course the field trip to the apple orchard was a perfect follow up!  Keep practicing sight words and rhyming words.  I’ll test those again before grade cards.

In math, we’ve been working on the concepts of one more and one less which is kinda hard for kindergarten.  Also still working on writing and reading those numbers 1-10.

We talked about the Habit, “Seek first to understand and then be understood.”  We also talked about problem solving and how to take a little problem and solve it instead of making it a bigger one.  We learned to say, “stop, I don’t like it when….” so that we can try and solve the problems first before an adult gets involved.

To do:

  1. Send picture order forms back if you want to order pictures.  We will have picture day on Thursday Oct. 3rd.  We do take pics first thing in the morning.   If you want to send play clothes for your child to change, that’s fine.
  2. Please send apple items in on TUESDAY, not Monday.  I sent notes home if you returned them and highlighted what I need you to bring.  Thanks so much for helping out with that!
  3. Reminder NO school tomorrow!  Teachers have a professional day.

I will be gone on Monday.  We are flying to Dallas this weekend to inter the rest of my father in law’s remains.  He passed away in May and per his wishes, we did some in Wichita in the church garden and the rest are to be put in the church vault in Dallas.  This was the only weekend we could make it work for everyone so I need to go.

Please remind your child to have above the line behavior and I’ll look forward to being back on Tuesday!  A great big thank you again to all the parent volunteers who went with us on the field trip today!  Be sure to ask your child about it!  We fed chickens and goats, picked apples and pumpkins, went on a hayride and learned a lot about bees!

Have a great weekend!
