Week of Feb.24-28th

Standard

This week we focused on dental health and nutrition!  We learned about healthy/not healthy foods, learned about the healthy food plate (which replaces the old food pyramid) and ways to keep our teeth clean.

We added the sight words no and it.  We are working on hearing the middle and end sounds of words and practicing our sight words.  A few kids have passed all 55 words and as they do, I will send home the 1st and 2nd grade lists of words to start on!

I have been retesting a few kids on reading levels and they are jumping up levels so that I’m having a hard time keeping up! (Great problem to have by the way!)  Some groups I’ve met with and some I’ve sent home cold reads as I try and retest a few.

In math, we are finishing up addition and moving on to subtraction.  We will work on subtraction until Spring Break/end of 3rd quarter.  We will also mix up addition and subtraction, so they’ll have to really pay attention to what the problem looks like.

In second step/leader in me, we’ve worked on problem solving and also talking about inviting others to play with us.  We continue to reinforce using our words instead of our hands!

We started our Bear research unit today.  We are learning new bear vocabulary words and will be writing a bear report when we are finished learning about 4 different types of bears.

Just a reminder that you need to report absences to the attendance line in the office.  I appreciate you letting me know as well, but you have to report it to them or they will call you anyway!  Thanks!

We are working as a class to earn an extra recess and we’ve talked about how important it is that we are all in charge of ourselves and how we’ll work together to earn this.  Please continue to have those conversations at home about above the line behavior.  They had a great day today and all worked hard!

A reminder that I will be gone on Fri. and Mon.  Miss V. will be here and can check my email, but I will be on the slopes and NOT checking email! 🙂  Please call the office with change of plans/absences.

Have a great weekend!
