Monthly Archives: December 2020

Week of Dec. 7th-11th

Standard

It’s gingerbread week in kindergarten! We’ve read and compared lots of awesome gingerbread stories and so far, the gingerbread girl is the only who who hasn’t been eaten by the fox or coyote!! We’ve talked about the different characters, the refrains in the story and have written the different endings in our journal.

We’ve also been writing in our elf journals each morning, working hard to practice writing good sentences and stretching out words. This morning Buddy tried to bring back a snowman but it melted. The kids felt really sad for the snowman! Haven’t had that reaction before…ha!

We added the letters Zz and Vv and added the sight words “have”, “purple”, and “orange”.

In math, we’ve been working on graphing, problem solving and addition.

Today we worked on Hour of Code. I believe I’ve sent this before, but if you’d like to work on coding at home, it’s a GREAT problem solving/math skill. Go to code.org, click on the bee, scroll down, click K-5, scroll down and click course A. If you create an account at home, then it will leave off where they started each time.

Next week are some spirit week days. If you want to participate, they are as follows:

Holiday Spirit Week

Monday, December 14th-Friday December 18th

Monday- Grinch Day

Wear Green

Tuesday- Candy Cane Day

Wear Red and White

Wednesday- Winter Wonderland Whiteout

Wear White, Blue or Sparkles

Thursday- Holiday Sock Day

Friday: Wear Holiday Hats, Headbands, Jewelry

Our party will be on Friday am. Reminder that the bell will ring at 11:55 am on Friday.

The kids will be bringing home a snowman sack today, that is a gift for you all. You can open it now for Hannukah or save it for Christmas, whichever you choose to celebrate.

Have a good weekend!

Week of Nov. 30-Dec. 4th

Standard

I’m sure you heard Buddy the elf is now in our classroom. Every day when the kids come in they have to find Buddy and write what he’s doing in their elf journal. We’re working on good sentence structure with capital letters, spaces between words and punctuation at the end.

We added the letter Ee this week and the sight words “with” and “what”. I sent home a sheet so you’d know what sight words your child knew when we tested last week. We will test one more time late next week for grade cards. Book bags may not come home again until Jan. We’ve been doing so much work together stretching words and reading. Continue to practice the sight word books that come home.

In math, we are still working on comparing numbers, shapes, and how to build numbers. We are also working on writing them correctly. We are doing simple addition but haven’t really called it addition yet.

We learned about reindeer today and the difference between a fact and an opinion. Next week we will start our gingerbread unit and do lots of comparing and contrasting the different versions of the gingerbread man…and there are MANY!

I sent home two games yesterday, a sight word game and a number recognition game. Those would be great at home practice!

Next Friday on the 11th it will be PJ day! Make sure they still wear tennis shoes and a coat as we will go outside, so make sure they are dressed warm enough!

Today I sent home the “Inclement Weather/Snow Day” remote learning. I assume you got the email which was very confusing. If we have an inclement weather day that they deem a remote learning day, there will be the expectation that they work on the activities in the bag. We would have a zoom at 8:30 that morning with attendance taken. They would then do the activities that go with the day. Please do them in order (day one on the first day etc.) We have 4 snow days planned in there. If we don’t use them, then we can talk about that in March! 🙂 They will need to know their sumdog login that was sent home awhile ago as that will be one of the expectations. If you don’t have that, let me know and I will resend it. Please make sure this bag is in a safe place with the other take home bag sent earlier in the year. Let me know if you have questions.

Have a great weekend!
