Week of Aug. 30th-Sept. 3rd

Standard

This week has been all about our colors/color words and some fun stories, like Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly….and some Books…. That crazy lady swallows all kinds of things and we’ll enjoy her books all year!

We are really diving into our phonics and have practiced with syllables this week and adding to and taking words apart. We also practiced the high frequency words, “to, play, see”. Books have come home along with color word books. Those are great to put in their star words bags to read with their reading wands. We also learned the letters Tt and Pp and their sounds and actions. We also practiced writing them on the lines. I am sending home a practice sheet on Friday. If your child’s had a * at the top, they need some additional practice. Please sit with them and make sure they are doing it correctly and always starting from the top. We don’t typically start writing on the lines this early, but this is how this curriculum is set up, so we’re trying it that way.

We have also started practicing writing the numbers 0-5 which can be tricky. Additional practice at home is always good. Have them sing you the song we sing while writing.

We heard the story about “Begin with the end in Mind” which is the 2nd Leader in Me Habit. We also talked this week about how it’s okay to make mistakes and it’s how we handle those mistakes that’s important.

I added the Epic app to the Ipads. The class code is emr0154. This is a great app with lots of books on it. I will also add a Seesaw activity. For now, we haven’t done much at all so it would be helpful if you help them on Seesaw at first. If they do not finish, have them click the orange checkmark at the top and it will save as a draft. Once you click the green check, it comes to me to look at. If it’s not finished, I will send it back. I also added the PBS kids app which has a lot of fun stories and games.

SNACK: Just a reminder, we have a student that has a nut allergy. Please do not send in ANY snack with nuts/peanut butter in it. I want everyone to be safe during snack time at school!

A note was sent home about raffle baskets for the pj and pancake bingo night. The kindergarten raffle basket will be Legos/Outdoor water fun. PTA is asking that those new items be brought to school by 9/10.

Just a heads up, the week of Sept. 13-17th, kindergarten will be in charge of our school service project which will be Noah’s bandage project to support Childhood cancer awareness. We are asking everyone that can, to bring in a box or two of fun bandages to donate to local children’s hospitals. Kindergarten will be in charge of collecting and counting the boxes. You can start sending those in anytime!

Please submit book orders by noon tomorrow so I can order before I leave school tomorrow.

My Dad is doing well in rehab and getting stronger each day. My Mom is staying with us which has been fun to have her around. We hope he will be going home sometime next week! Whew! This has been a much longer/harder journey than we ever anticipated, but we’re grateful for modern medicine and that they were able to fix all the issues!

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend!
